Climate change is the long-term, sustained shift in global average temperatures driven by human activities, including the release of carbon dioxide, methane, and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. It is the result of surface and atmospheric processes occurring over decades to centuries, and includes shifts in regional weather patterns and biodiversity. It is becoming increasingly clear that the Earth's climate is rapidly changing at an unsustainable rate, causing significant and profound disruptions to human health, agriculture, ecosystems, energy systems, and economic development.
